Do Dogs Sweat? Here’s What to Know

Dogs do sweat—but not the way we do. Instead of sweaty armpits or foreheads, pups release small amounts of sweat through their paw pads. If you’ve ever noticed damp footprints on the floor after a walk, that’s their version of sweating in action.

But sweating isn’t how dogs stay cool. To regulate body temperature, they rely on panting and a process called vasodilation, which sends warm blood closer to the skin’s surface (especially around their ears and face). Some breeds are more heat-sensitive than others, and dogs with flat faces—like pugs and bulldogs—need extra care in hot weather.

The best way to help? Offer shade, fresh water, and avoid midday heat. While dogs aren’t breaking a sweat like we are, they’re still counting on us to keep them cool.

What Is a Puppucciono?

🧋What is a puppucciono? A Starbucks puppuccino is a free, off-menu treat made of whipped cream—safe for most dogs in small amounts.

🍹 Is it safe for dogs? It’s best served in moderation and may not suit pups with sensitive stomachs or health issues like pancreatitis or diabetes.

Other restaurants, such as Shake Shack and Dairy Queen, also offer dog-friendly treats. Just be sure to check with your veterinarian if you have any questions.
