One Couple Takes a Chance on Jax

When Tracy and her husband attended an event hosted by the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society (CPHS), they had no idea they were about to meet a dog who needed a family more than ever.

Jax, a pit bull/rottweiler mix, was abandoned in the yard of CPHS and had spent a long year at the shelter, waiting for a family to give him a second chance. Despite his cheerful nature, Jax had been overlooked time and again. His hyperactivity, poor training, and what shelter workers called his “mouthy” behavior made him hard to place.

But when Tracy and her husband saw Jax at the Paws in the Park event, something clicked. His energy, once a barrier to adoption, was exactly what they were looking for. They saw beyond the mouthing and jumping, recognizing that this sweet pup simply needed patience, love, and a stable home.

Fast forward a month later, and Jax is thriving in his new forever home. The couple has helped Jax transform from a kennel-stressed pup into a happy, well-adjusted dog. CPHS shared the heartwarming news with their community, celebrating Jax’s new chapter.

“This is why we do what we do. Moments like this make it all worth it,” the CPHS wrote on Facebook.

“Such a beautiful little happy face. Thank you for adopting Jax and showing him the love and respect he deserves,” wrote one of over 100 commenters on the post.

Thanks to Tracy and her husband’s willingness to take a chance, Jax now has the home he deserved all along.

5 Ways to Celebrate Thanksgiving with Your Pup

Thanksgiving isn’t just for people—it’s for dogs, too! After all, it’s a day of gratitude, and is there anything we’re more thankful for than our pups? Here are five ways to make sure your dog is part of the festivities and feels the holiday love.

1. Host a Friendsgiving with Your Dog’s Besties

Invite your friends and their dogs over for a Friendsgiving celebration! Set up a potluck dinner where everyone brings a dish (for yourselves and the dogs!). The pups can enjoy their own mini feast, and it’ll be adorable to watch them gobble up their meals. Keep an eye out—we’ll be sharing some dog-friendly Thanksgiving recipes in the coming days!

2. Do a Turkey Trot Together

There’s always a race going on around Thanksgiving. Find a dog-friendly turkey trot, or create your own race around the neighborhood. Running with your pup is a rewarding challenge, and you’ll feel extra thankful to cross the finish line together.

3. Take a Festive Hike and Picnic

If running isn’t your thing, enjoy the crisp fall air with a Thanksgiving Day hike. Pack a picnic with pup-friendly treats and some of your own holiday favorites. Find a scenic spot, spread out a blanket, and enjoy lunch with your furry best friend.

4. Have a Cozy Movie Marathon

If your ideal holiday is snuggling up with your dog in pajamas, this one’s for you! Curl up with a holiday movie marathon and get matching pajamas to make it feel extra special.

5. Host Your Own Puppy Bowl

Thanksgiving usually involves football—whether you like it or not! So why not bring in a version you can actually get behind and enjoy? Turn your backyard into a puppy bowl (or living room depending on the weather)! Invite friends and their dogs, set up a mini football field, and get ready for the cutest game day ever. Provide snacks, water, and awards for all the “players.” Let the zoomies begin!

How will you celebrate Thanksgiving with your pup? Do you already have a Thanksgiving tradition together? We’d love to hear about it!

If Dogs Could Plan the Perfect Day

If your dog could plan their perfect day, what would it look like? It’s kind of fun to imagine them calling the shots! Here’s a peek into what we think their dream day might look like:

Morning. The day starts with a long, leisurely walk with plenty of interesting smells to sniff at their own pace. Next, it’s breakfast time – with a few bites from your plate, too. Every time they give you those puppy eyes, you won’t be able to resist and give them taste after taste. After breakfast, it’s time for a good cuddle session on the couch.

Mid-Morning. Time for some play with their favorite toys—fetch, tug-of-war, you name it! Even better, if they’re a social pup, take them to their favorite dog park or beach to run wild. Let them play to their heart’s content until they’re completely tuckered out. They’ll decide when playtime’s over (if it ever ends!).

Afternoon. After a morning of excitement, it’s time for a relaxing nap in the sun. They’ll find the perfect warm spot, complete with a soft blanket if it’s chilly indoors. Once they’re up, it’s backyard exploration time to chase butterflies and sniff out interesting scents. And, of course, they can bark at anything they want—even if it’s just the neighbor’s head popping up over the fence, the same one they see every single day.

Late Afternoon. Invite their favorite “aunt” or “uncle” over and let them jump up as many times as they’d like—until they knock them over for a round of breathless kisses! Then, head out together for a neighborhood walk, with plenty of chances to greet friendly dogs and people. And, of course, treats just because.

Evening. The day winds down with a cozy couch session, where they’ll cuddle up beside you for some TV time. After a delicious homemade dinner, they’ll get tucked into bed, spreading out to claim as much space as they want. You’ll squeeze in around them, and they’ll drift off, dreaming of another perfect day.

What do you think—does that sound like your dog’s perfect day? What would they add? We’d love to hear what would complete your pup’s dream day!
