Olympians Break from Training to Meet Some Rescue Dogs

As the Paris Olympics kick off, we all have a bit of Olympic fever. Today, we are sharing this little throwback to the last summer Olympics in Tokyo and the photo series where athletes posed with rescue pets. It’s a perfect reminder that even though these athletes have superhuman talents, they cannot resist adorable puppies.

See stars from Olympics and Paralympics events pose with adoptable puppies from Paw Works. It was a fun campaign to celebrate National Pet Day. With features from Ryan Lochte, Allyson Felix, and many more, we hope it helped these pups find a gold medal home!

Dog Breeds With the Best Chance of Olympic Gold

As we watch athletes from all over the world compete in a range of events over the next two weeks, our dogs are likely tuning in next to us. There is no dog Olympics, but luckily, someone has already determined which breeds would win the gold at the different events. Let this list help you picture your dog on the podium.

  1. Swimming - Portuguese Water Dogs are natural-born swimmers and one of the most athletic breeds out there.

  2. Track and Field - Greyhounds are the fastest sprinters and can reach speeds of up to 45 mph.

  3. Gymnastics - Miniature Pinschers are the perfect size to manage the beam and the vault, plus they have large personalities.

  4. Weightlifting - Rottweilers are highly muscular dogs with broad shoulders and would be perfect for a lifting event.

  5. Equestrian - Australian Shepherds are skilled at herding just about any animal and can stay cool under pressure, so they would be perfect for a horse event.

  6. Beach Volleyball - Labrador retrievers love playing in the sun and have tons of energy, so they would be perfect for the volleyball competition.

  7. Skateboarding - American Bulldogs are laid back and would fit right in with skaters. They are incredibly focused and would be able to crush it on a skateboard.

  8. Tennis - German shorthaired pointers have endless energy and would be perfect for running back and forth chasing tennis balls, plus they are experts at the game of fetch.

  9. Rugby - Leonbergers are one of the strongest breeds and would excel at this sport, requiring stamina and strength.

  10. Baseball/Softball - Golden Retrievers are so smart, and baseball is a game of fetch and sit-and-stay. In addition, these pups would look adorable in a baseball hat.

In our opinion, gold medals for all dogs! But if you have one of the breeds listed above, give them a little extra celebration this weekend.

Is This an Olympic Event?

This dog is showing off his incredible skill of walking on water. Who knows if it’s a trick of the eye or if this pup just moves so fast that he floats? Whatever the case it, we're here for it and cheering him on. Louie is talented and incredibly quick. Gold medal for him!
