Library Accepts Dog Photos for Lost and Damaged Books

During the month of May, the East Hampton Public Library organized a program to help patrons who had lost or damaged a book. If you brought in a dog photo, they would forgive your fees. You might think that excludes people without dogs, but they would accept all dogs. People could take a photo of a friend’s dog or a neighbor’s dog.

The entire program was inspired by another library that did something similar with cat photos. Patrons could even choose if they wanted their dog photo posted on the community board. This helped the library bring back people who might have avoided the library for a while.

Gifts for Dog-Loving Kids

Kids are so fun to shop for. If you have a child in your life who loves dogs, we’ve got a few ideas for you to pick up for their next birthday or holiday. Even if they don’t have their own pup yet, they catch on early that dogs are a man’s best friend. Here are a few gift ideas for those special kiddos:

  • A Veterinarian Play Set can help get kids interested in STEAM by providing tools to mimic a vet. Kids can check on their stuffed animals and practice good animal care.

  • Bluey Toys are perfect for those kids who love the show. It’s one of the best kids' programs, and there are great toys available.

  • Scribble Scrubble Pets are perfect for kids who love making messes. They can color all over them and then give them a bath to return to a clean slate.

  • Pooping Puppies Puzzle is available for those kids who love poop jokes and putting together a puzzle. There are multiple options with different levels of difficulty.

  • Paw Patrol action figures are perfect for younger kids who love watching these characters on TV.

  • The Soggy Doggy Game is a board game for all ages. There is a timer, and you race against it to “wash” the dog in the middle of the board.

  • Lego sets come in all themes, including some great ones for dog lovers.

  • Little Friends: Dogs and Cats is a Nintendo Switch game perfect for kids with some reading skills. The purpose of the game is to bond with and train your own pet. You can play with them and feed them.

This New Toilet Paper Just Might Save the Planet

Every 24 hours, 27,000 trees are cut down to make toilet paper. To us, that feels like way too many — and Honeycomb agrees. That’s why this small, female-founded brand created luxury, three-ply toilet tissue made from bamboo. It feels just like regular high-end toilet paper, but doesn’t harm trees.

So why bamboo? It’s the fastest-growing plant in the world — growing 100 times faster than the average tree — which means thousands of rolls can be produced in the time it takes for a single tree to grow back.

Even better? Code DIG30 will give new customers 30% off their first order for the nexts 24 hours.

Thank you to Honeycomb for sponsoring The Daily Dig.

Two Ingredient Frozen Treats

Your dog will love a nice little frozen treat on a hot summer day. This recipe is easy and only requires two ingredients, so it’s easy to make repeatedly.

You’ll need: ¼ cup of chopped strawberries, ¼ cup of coconut oil, and mini molds

  1. Dice up the strawberries and mix them into the coconut oil.

  2. Gently pack each mini mold with the mixture.

  3. Place in the freezer for about an hour and see if it’s frozen.

  4. Remove and leave out for a few minutes.

  5. Pop the treats out of the mold. Store in an airtight container.

Final Bark

In the time it takes to read today’s edition, an estimated 93 trees will be cut down to meet toilet paper demand. Honeycomb is helping to change that with luxury, three-ply tissue made from sustainable bamboo. It’s biodegradable, plastic-free, and will be delivered straight to you.

New customers can use code DIG30 for 30% off your first shipment. Expires tonight.
