True or False?
Dogs wink as a sign of submission to their owners.

My dog winks at me sometimes... and I always wink back in case it's some kind of code."
Pip Has Some Shad to Hand Out
Dogs can be particular about which humans they want to interact with. Allison is a dog lover, but she’s been living with her mom for a while, and her mom’s Chihuahua, Pip, constantly hands out attitude.
Pip was rescued from a place in Kentucky. She was a 14-pound deer-headed Chihuahua. The center that rescued her is known for transporting dogs from high-kill shelters in Kentucky to Maryland for adoption. Alison’s mom instantly fell in love with Pip, even though the dog wasn’t super friendly.
It didn’t take long for Pip to become attached to Alison’s mom. When this happened, she also started becoming very protective. This is common with small rescue pups who have had a tough past. Alison shares this saga and explains that with time, Pip got used to her. She will likely always be a bit protective, but she has warmed up enough to receive pets and chin scratches. Consistency and patience are required with rescue pups, and we are so excited that Alison gave Pip some time.
Can You Use Aquaphor on Your Dog?
People use Aquaphor for all kinds of ailments, but can this petroleum jelly-based moisturizer be used on dogs? Many human products are not recommended for dogs, but you can absolutely use Aquaphor on your pup. There are no toxic ingredients that would cause harm to your dog. As always, it’s important to keep an eye on them if they have an injury and you are using something new.
When using it on a dog’s paws, consider adding booties or socks to help it soak into the dog's paws. It’s hard to keep them sitting still and the jelly can make it a little slippery. If you put it on the dog’s nose, try to keep them from licking it or drinking water for a little while for the same reason.
The five main uses of Aquaphor in dogs are:
Paw pad hyperkeratosis is a condition in which a dog’s pads thicken and harden, leading to cracking. It can be painful on certain surfaces, and a moisturizer can help heal.
Nappy Rash happens when dogs have to wear pads or diapers because they cannot hold their urine. Aquaphor can help prevent this rash.
Hyperkeratosis of the nose is similar to paw pads. Dry skin can cause cracked noses in dogs, which can help make them more comfortable.
Minor burns can be treated with Aquaphor because it helps lift dead skin and allows the dog to heal quickly. However, the vet should be consulted for anything more than a minor burn.
Pressure sores and calluses can happen in older dogs who struggle to move and shift positions. They may experience calluses on their joints, and Aquaphor can help heal those patches.

DOTD - Meet Zooey and Tia Maria
Our featured dogs this week are Zooey and Tia Maria from Victoria, British Columbia. This picture was snapped right after a hike through the woods, during which they were busy sniffing, smelling, and chasing each other. They happily took a break here on the toadstool table to receive water and treats. How could anyone say no to them?
