Valerie the Dachshund’s Survival Story
For 529 days, Valerie the miniature dachshund lived alone in the wild scrublands of South Australia’s Kangaroo Island. She vanished during a 2023 camping trip, slipping away from her pen near Stokes Bay and disappearing into dense brush. Despite tireless searching, her family left without her.
Locals never gave up hope. Sightings trickled in, including one photo showing her signature oversized ears poking above tall grass. Kangala Wildlife Rescue stepped in with cameras, traps, and a team of volunteers determined to bring her home.
The island, six times the size of Singapore, is known for harsh bushland, birds of prey, and extreme weather. That Valerie survived it all, still wearing her pink collar, has amazed even wildlife experts.
It took over 1,000 volunteer hours and 5,000 kilometers of searching, but Valerie was finally found. She’s now safe, well-fed, and heading home to her family.

Are You Too Young to Think About How You’re Aging? Probably Not
Starting in our 30s, some key cellular processes begin to slow down, making us feel tired and weak over time. This decline affects not just our physical strength and endurance, but significantly reduces our quality of life making everyday activities harder to enjoy.
Luckily, scientists have discovered a way to shape how we age. Mitopure®, by Timeline, targets the root cause of this cellular decline and is clinically proven to increase cellular energy, giving our bodies the energy they need to function optimally. The results? Double-digit increases in muscle strength and endurance without any change in exercise.

Ready to Adopt a Dachshund?
They may be small in size, but Dachshunds come with some pretty big personalities and even bigger hearts. Known for their long bodies and lively nature, these pups have become a popular choice for families and apartment dwellers alike. And when you inevitably fall for those sweet eyes, here are a few things to consider.
Dachshunds are affectionate and playful, making them super lovable. They can also be vocal and stubborn when it comes to training. Being bred to hunt in underground tunnels, their boldness is baked in. That same bravery can translate into protectiveness, especially in adult dogs.
One important consideration? Their health. Their unique build puts them at risk for back problems like intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). Many owners adjust their homes with ramps and avoid stairs to help prevent injury!
They're happiest when they’re not left alone too long and love to burrow into warm places (including your blanket pile). With time, care, and patience, a Dachshund becomes a fiercely loyal companion, a lovable pup, and an unforgettable character.
