Meet Kila: The Dog Who Thinks Heâs a Cat
Are you a cat person or a dog person? If youâve ever found it hard to choose, Kila, a 3-year-old miniature Australian shepherd and heeler mix, might just bridge the gap for you.
Raised alongside cats, Kila has gained viral fame for his distinctly feline behavior. In a TikTok video with over 700,000 views, Kila can be seen curling up in impossibly small spaces, lounging on the back of the couch, and even chasing a laser pointerâclassic cat moves!
Marie, Kilaâs owner from Southern California, shares her home with three cats: Sierra, Raven, and Everest. She explains that Kilaâs quirky, cat-like tendencies started early. âWhen we brought him home as a puppy, his playmates and cuddle buddies were our cats,â Marie said. One foster kitten, Mini, formed a particularly close bond with him. Growing up with these feline influences, Kila naturally adopted their habits.
From squeezing into cat beds to perching on furniture, Kila is a pro at blending in with his cat siblings. âHeâs just a dog living in a catâs world,â Marie captioned the viral TikTok.
The video has sparked joy and laughter, with commenters sharing stories of their own pets crossing the cat-dog behavior divide. Marie added, âI never expected the video to blow up like this, but itâs so fun seeing how many people can relate.â
Whether youâre team dog, cat, or somewhere in between, Kilaâs antics are a heartwarming reminder that our pets never stop surprising us.

How to Introduce Dogs and Cats
Introducing a dog and a cat can feel like a delicate operation, but with patience and the right approach, they can become the best of friendsâor at least peaceful housemates.
Start with separation. Keep your new pet in a separate room, allowing both animals time to adjust to each otherâs scents. Swap blankets or bedding between them so they can get used to the idea of sharing space before actually meeting.
When itâs time for introductions, start with a controlled environment. Keep your dog on a leash and your cat free to retreat if needed. Allow them to observe each other from a distance, gradually decreasing the space between them as they grow more comfortable. Reward calm behavior with treats and praise to reinforce positive associations.
Watch body language closely. A wagging tail or playful pounce might seem harmless, but it can be overwhelming for the other animal. Give your pets breaks if either shows signs of stress, like growling, hissing, or cowering.
Short, positive interactions will set the foundation for a good relationship. Over time, you can increase their time together as their comfort grows.
Remember, some dogs and cats hit it off quickly, while others take weeksâor even monthsâto adjust. Patience and consistency are key.
By taking it slow and steady, your dog and cat can learn to coexist peacefully and may even become inseparable companions!
