Simple Ways to Dog-Proof Your Home

Your home is your dog’s safe haven, but hidden dangers are often lurking in the most unsuspecting places. From slippery rugs to toxic cleaning supplies, a few simple changes can help prevent accidents and keep your furry friend safe.

One easy fix is using covered trash cans. Dogs love to sneak snacks from the trash, and it’s not unusual for a dog to chow down on something dangerous. A foot-pedal trash can is a simple solution to keep them out.

Another great tip is investing in nonslip rugs, especially on hardwood floors or stairs, to prevent slips and falls. Dogs often slide when running around on slick surfaces, and a yoga mat or gripper pad can help protect them. Also, consider setting up a pet camera. If your dog suffers from anxiety or health issues, a camera will let you keep an eye on them during the day and ensure they’re safe while you’re out.

Dog-proofing your home doesn’t have to be a hassle. With a few small adjustments, you can make your living space much safer for your pup.

Emergency Dog Surgeries Can Cost $10K+

According to a study, 80% of pets will have some sort of medical emergency in their lifetime. With costs continuing to climb, many dog owners are wondering how they can afford a surgery in case of an emergency.

Some dog owners have separate savings accounts ready to cover these extreme costs, but now there is an even better solution with the Nibbles Pet Rewards Credit Card.

The card comes with complimentary pet insurance for one eligible pet, so your doggo can be covered, and you get 3x rewards at the vet, at pet stores, and on pet services.

Save hundreds annually on premiums alone and potentially thousands in case of an emergency. All this with the no annual fee Nibbles Credit Card.

Nibbles is not a bank. The Nibbles Card is issued by Lead Bank. No annual fee. Other fees may apply. Eligibility requirements apply. See nibbles.com for details. T&Cs apply.

Why Your Dog Loves When You Talk to Them

We all know that feeling of excitement when our dog reacts to our voice, whether it's a happy tail wag or a curious head tilt. But did you know that your pup actually understands more than you might think? Research shows that dogs can interpret not only your tone but some of your words, too. This is because of something called dog-directed speech, where you raise your voice, soften your tone, and simplify your language, much like you would with a baby. And guess what? Your dog loves it.

Dogs are incredibly intuitive and responsive to our voices, especially when we speak in a high-pitched, affectionate way. Studies have found that dogs respond best to speech that's directed at them with warmth, especially when it's paired with familiar commands or phrases. That’s why your dog perks up when you call them or give them a treat, because they’ve learned to associate these words and tones with something positive.

But it’s not just about words. Dogs also read our body language and emotions, picking up on cues like posture and facial expressions. So, when you speak kindly to your dog and accompany it with a soft smile or a comforting gesture, you’re strengthening the bond between you and your furry friend.
