These Are the Coolest Dog Tricks

National Pet Trick Day is the perfect time to celebrate the amazing things dogs can do – and some of their tricks are just jaw-dropping! It's mind-blowing how talented our pups can be, reminding us that they understand way more than we realize (and let’s be honest, we dog parents already think they understand a lot—we do have full conversations with them daily!). Here are some of the coolest tricks dogs have been known to master.

Prayer. Having seen so many dogs that can barely wait to dive into their food before the bowl even hits the floor, it's hard to believe some pups can actually be taught to "pray" before they eat! This trick involves the dog sitting calmly, placing their paws on a surface, and bowing their head as if in a moment of reflection. Whether you're religious or not, it's undeniably adorable—and seriously impressive!

Close a Door. Believe it or not, dogs can be trained to close doors for you! How helpful is that? With a little practice, your pup can learn to nudge a door shut using their nose or paw. Most of us have dogs who are pros at opening doors and won’t give us a moment alone, but closing them? Now that’s something!

Dance. Ever seen a dog do the cha-cha? Okay, maybe not quite that, but pups can be trained to stand and spin on their hind legs like little dancers. My own dog actually learned to “dance” passively just by hearing me ask my toddler every day if he wants to groove. Now, whenever I say “dance,” my dog stands up on his hind legs, reaches his paws into my hands, and we twirl together. It’s the cutest thing!

Ring a Bell. Some dog parents teach their pups to ring a bell when they need to go outside for potty breaks. It’s not only a practical trick but also a fun one! Your pup can’t make their request any clearer than this.

Fetch a Drink. Some dogs are so clever they can bring you a drink from the fridge! It might take some time and effort to teach, but it’s always a showstopper. We’ve seen videos of pups fetching water for their owners— and even grabbing them a cold beer!

Yoga. Does your pup want to join your yoga routine? Dogs can be taught to mimic simple poses (and sometimes even more complicated ones!). It turns your yoga session into a fun bonding experience.

Fetch a Tissue When You Sneeze. Got the sniffles? No problem! Your dog can fetch you a tissue when you sneeze, proving they really are your best friend. This one amazes us.

Go to the Toilet. Yes, some dogs can be trained to use a human toilet. It’s rare, but it’s one of the most impressive tricks on this list!

Playing the Piano. Musical pups can be taught to hit the keys, making them the star of any living room concert.

Handstand. A true crowd-pleaser, teaching a dog to do a handstand takes agility and strength, but it’s a trick that’ll leave everyone in awe.

What are some cool tricks your pup knows? We’d love to hear all about them!

DOTD - Meet Indiana Jones

How cute is Indiana Jones? His mom says he's the most amazing Blue Merle Border Collie, and we can see why. His special blue and brown eyes are beautiful, and those little bottom teethers are just too adorable. Thanks for sharing!

Watch Jasmine Perform 45 Tricks!

Happy National Pet Tricks Day! To celebrate, we just have to share an all-time favorite featuring the adorable Jasmine. Jasmine was an international pup celebrity who rose to fame through her viral YouTube trick videos.

The talented Havanese was trained entirely with positive reinforcement (clicker training) and impressively performed 45 tricks in one video! Watch her push a shopping cart, help remove a jacket, hop into a suitcase, and even sneeze on command. What makes it even more special is the joy and excitement Jasmine radiates with each trick—it’s clear she loved to make her mom proud.

And rumor has it, her mom is writing a memoir about her! Though Jasmine passed two years ago, it’s heartwarming to see her legacy live on through her amazing tricks and the stories her mom will be bringing to life.
