🐕 Can your dog be your running buddy?

True or False?

A Greyhound could beat a Cheetah in a long-distance race.

Can Your Dog Be Your Running Buddy?

Running with your dog can be a great way to stay active and spend more quality time together. But before you clip on the leash and hit the trail, make sure your dog is actually ready for it.

Most pups need to be at least a year and a half old before doing any long-distance running, and they should already be comfortable walking on a loose leash. A dog that pulls or weaves can easily trip you up, so start slow and reward them for staying on one side—left or right—and keeping pace.

You can even teach your dog cues like “let’s run” or “slow down” to help them adjust their pace. Begin by jogging in short bursts, then build up their endurance gradually over several weeks.

Always check the weather and bring water. Your dog can’t cool off like you can, and they might not let you know when they’re tired. Keep it fun, go at their pace, and enjoy the run together.

The Best Dogs for Active Lifestyles

Looking for a pup who can keep up with your active lifestyle? Some breeds aren’t just cute companions—they’re serious athletes who need movement as much as you do.

Border Collies are a top pick for a reason. They’re incredibly smart, quick on their feet, and thrive on mental and physical challenges. For city dwellers with energy to spare, Jack Russells pack a surprising punch in a small frame.

Don’t count out the Standard Poodle or Labrador Retriever, either. Both are versatile, eager to learn, and love a good hike or a game of fetch. The Siberian Husky? Born for endurance, even if they’d prefer snow over sun.

Whether you’re into agility, running, or just long weekend adventures, finding the right athletic match can turn exercise into bonding time and give your dog the fulfilling life they’re wired for.

NYPD Officer Adopts Dog He Saved

A morning rescue on the East River turned into a lifelong bond for Officer Jared Desalvo and one small, lucky dog. After pulling a Maltese from the icy waters near South Street Seaport, the NYPD officer couldn’t stop thinking about her.

Hudson, as the pup is now named, spent a few weeks in foster care while the Animal Care Center of New York searched for her owner. But no one came forward. So Desalvo stepped in, adopting her himself.

His kids had no idea. They thought they were going to a party until Hudson walked through the door. Their reaction? Pure joy and lots of hugs.

“She’ll be a great part of our family,” Desalvo said. From a river rescue to a warm home, Hudson’s story is the kind of second chance we all hope for.

đŸ€” Did You Know: True! Cheetahs are fast sprinters, but Greyhounds can maintain high speeds over much longer distances, so a Greyhound would win in a long-distance race.
