Drone Helps Reunite Dog With Owner

Frank doesn’t usually wander far. But when the 13-year-old basset hound went missing, his owner, Lucy, knew something wasn’t right. Turns out, a urinary infection had left Frank disoriented—and alone in the fields near his U.K. home.

Enter Drone to Home, a charity that helps find lost pets using drone pilots and volunteers on foot. Within 25 minutes of searching, their founder spotted Frank about a third of a mile from his farm. Dehydrated but unharmed, the sweet pup was finally scooped up after seven hours missing.

The reunion was caught on camera—and it’s pure joy. Frank, tail wagging, trots beside Lucy as they head home. The footage now has nearly 100,000 views and countless comments cheering him on.

Frank is recovering well, and Lucy is beyond grateful. As one commenter put it: ā€œThe hopeless lost walk is gone—another wonderful rescue.ā€

Common Dog Myths Busted

Let’s bust a classic: if your dog’s tail is wagging, they must be happy, right? Not always. A wag just means emotional arousal, which can swing either way. A low, stiff wag might mean ā€œback off,ā€ not ā€œbelly rubs, please.ā€

Another favorite myth? The ā€œone dog year equals seven human yearsā€ formula. It’s oversimplified. A one-year-old pup is more like a teenager, and breed size matters—small dogs age more slowly than large breeds. So no, your eight-year-old Chihuahua is not a senior citizen just yet.

Also, your dog can see color! It’s not all black and white. Their vision is more blue-yellow with muted reds and greens—think Instagram filter, not grayscale.

And before you trim down that summer coat: many breeds, like Huskies and Goldens, actually stay cooler with their double coat intact. Shaving it can do more harm than good.

Bottom line: Dogs are wonderful, confusing little beings. And understanding them takes more than wag-watching. It means learning their language, one myth at a time.

As a puppy, Winston was constantly moving and has not been an easy subject. This was one of the first portraits of our new dog, and I had to draw his attention straight up to get him looking into the camera (between moments when he jumped up towards me, leaving the area of focus).

This Dog Was Named After a Taxman

Some breed names are so familiar that we rarely think twice about them. But dig a little deeper, and you’ll find plenty of dog names are rooted in history, geography, or just plain weird logic.

Take the poodle. Despite their posh look, the name likely comes from the German word pudel, which means ā€œto splash in water.ā€ They were originally trained as water retrievers, which makes their name unexpectedly accurate. Beagles, on the other hand, might be named for their signature howlā€”ā€œbeuglerā€ in French means ā€œto bellow.ā€

And then there's the Dobermann. This sleek breed is named after Louis Dobermann, a 19th-century German tax collector who wanted a dog that could protect him on the job. Talk about multitasking.

Even "bloodhound" is misleading. It doesn’t refer to sniffing out blood, but rather the dog’s ā€œaristocratic bloodline.ā€ A fancy name for a very hard-working nose.
