How To Help Your Dog Love New Experiences
Bringing home a new dog is exciting, but it’s also the start of an important responsibility: helping them learn how to navigate the world. Socialization isn’t just about playdates. It’s about introducing your pup to people, sounds, places, and routines so they grow into confident, happy companions.
Puppies between 3 and 14 weeks are especially ready to learn, which makes this window a prime time to explore new experiences. Trips to the vet with treats, short car rides, and meeting healthy, vaccinated dogs are all part of the process. For adult dogs, patience is key. Start slow with calm introductions and always reward good behavior.
Even small things, like touching their paws or ears during grooming, help your dog feel safe and prepared for real-life situations. A little consistency now can make a big difference in their future.

Dog of the Day, Cassie
Cassie may look a little guilty surrounded by the remains of a toy, but don’t let that face fool you. She knew exactly what she was doing when she strutted into Cindy’s home over Thanksgiving 2020. Supposed to be a short-term foster, Cassie needed just under 24 hours to win over the family skeptic. By Sunday afternoon, her "temporary stay" had turned permanent.
Now, Cassie keeps life interesting with just the right mix of mischief and heart. She has endless energy when it's playtime, but she’s also the perfect reading companion.
Thanks to Cindy for sharing Cassie’s sparkle! Want your dog featured in the Daily Dig? Send a photo and a few fun facts. We’d love to share their story!

A Smart Way for Seniors to Fund Home Upgrades
A reverse mortgage can be a smart way for older homeowners to fund home improvement projects – especially upgrades that make aging in place safer and more comfortable. Whether it’s remodeling a kitchen, installing a walk-in tub, or adding ramps and railings for accessibility, the loan lets you tap into your home’s equity for cash without monthly payments. That means you can invest in the updates you need now while continuing to live in the home you’ve built over the years.
To qualify for a reverse mortgage, you must meet the following requirements:
You must be at least 62 years old.
You must own your home outright or have a low remaining mortgage balance that can be paid off at closing with reverse mortgage proceeds.
The home must be your primary residence (not a second home or rental property).
Eligible properties include single-family homes, FHA-approved condos, townhomes, and certain multi-unit properties (up to 4 units, as long as you live in one).
You must demonstrate the ability to pay property taxes, homeowners insurance, and maintenance costs.
You must complete a HUD-approved reverse mortgage counseling session to ensure you understand the loan terms and implications.

Why Dogs Get Bed Zoomies
Dogs don’t always wait for the park to show off their wild side. Sometimes, your bed is the stage! From sudden zoomies to dramatic blanket dives, many pups seem to get extra playful the moment they hop up beside you.
One big reason? Your bed smells like you. Dogs experience the world through their noses, and your sheets hold the comforting scent of their favorite person. For some breeds, like dachshunds, burrowing under blankets is irresistible. It taps into their natural instinct to tunnel. And let’s be honest, your pup also knows they’ve got your full attention up close at eye level.
But sometimes the hyper behavior is a clue that your dog needs more exercise. If bedtime turns into a wrestling match, an extra evening walk or game of fetch could help them settle more easily.
