True or False?
The Basenji is a breed of dog that cannot bark.

How One Dogâs Bark Saved a Life
A morning walk turned into a lifesaving mission for Michael Tutolo and his dog, Oliver. While out for their routine stroll, Oliverâa two-year-old rescue mini-doodleâsuddenly wouldnât stop barking. Following his lead, Tutolo spotted a Jeep, its windows iced over and sitting motionless near a country club in Lower Burrell. Something wasnât right.
Inside was 86-year-old Lawrence Conklin, who had been trapped in freezing temperatures for 15 hours. With no phone to call for help, he was unable to signal anyone. Authorities later learned that Conklin had likely experienced a drop in blood sugar, leading to the accident. By the time he was found, his car had run out of gas and hypothermia was setting in.
Emergency responders had to use ropes and a stokes basket to get Conklin to safety. His family says heâs expected to recover, thanks to Oliverâs sharp instincts.
Itâs a reminder that sometimes, a good set of earsâand a loud barkâcan make all the difference.

Why Freeze-Dried Treats Are a Game-Changer for Pups
Ever wonder why dogs go wild for freeze-dried treats? Itâs not just the crunchâitâs the flavor, the nutrition, and all the goodness packed inside.
Unlike traditional treats, freeze-dried snacks keep all the good stuff intact. The process removes moisture while locking in nutrients, meaning your pup gets all the deliciousness of raw ingredients without the mess.
Theyâre also gentle on sensitive stomachs. No mystery fillers or weird additivesâjust simple, digestible ingredients that wonât upset your pupâs tummy. Perfect for picky eaters and food-sensitive pups.
And our favorite part? Their convenience. Freeze-dried treats are lightweight, mess-free, and have a long shelf life, making them ideal for training sessions, on-the-go adventures, or just spoiling your pup at home.
So, would you try freeze-dried treats for your dog?

The Thrill of Sled Dog Racing
The Laconia Sled Dog Championship is back! After a few years of unpredictable weather, mushers and spectators are enjoying near-perfect trail conditions. The race began in 1929, and while it has evolved over the years the excitement remains the same. With trails stretching up to 5.5 miles, the event is a thrilling spectacle for fans.
Sled dog racing is more than just a competitionâitâs a sport that showcases elite canine athletes. Dogs like those in Fernando Ramirezâs team are born to run and spectators can feel the energy as the teams take off. Thereâs a misconception that these dogs are forced to race, but any observer will see that theyâre eager to hit the course.
The race this year is smaller than in past decades but with strong teams from across the U.S. and Canada, the competition is fierce. Brittany Colbath, a seasoned racer, is ready to hit the trail. With some younger dogs in her team, sheâs prepared for a challenging but exciting weekend.
If youâre in the area, grab a spot along the trail and cheer on these amazing athletes. The Laconia Derby is a must-see event for any dog lover!
