When Tom Turcich set out to walk around the world, he didn’t expect to do it with a four-legged companion. But a few months in, he adopted Savannah, a scrappy rescue pup from Texas. Together they embarked on an unforgettable seven-year journey.

At first, it wasn’t easy. Savannah was afraid of cars and too small to keep up, often riding in the cart Turcich used for supplies. Frustrated, he considered whether adopting her had been a mistake. But a simple mindset shift—making Savannah’s needs a priority—changed everything. By the time they reached Mexico, she was walking 24 miles a day and refusing to ride in the cart.

Over six continents and 38 countries, Savannah proved to be the perfect travel partner. She tackled deserts, mountains, and extreme weather, always eager to keep going. While Turcich sometimes felt exhausted, Savannah never lost her enthusiasm—even getting the zoomies after 30-mile treks!

Through it all, Savannah gave him something beyond companionship—perspective. No matter the challenge, she reminded him to appreciate the journey. Their incredible adventure is now captured in his upcoming book, The World Walk, celebrating the bond between a man, his dog, and the open road.
