When Rescuing a Dog Saves More Than One Life
When Caron Dzermajko saw Zoey, a special needs senior husky, featured on the news, she knew she had to adopt her. The rescue organization, 3 Husketeers, was looking for the perfect home, and Caron’s application was exactly what they hoped for. It seemed like a perfect match—though no one knew just how life-changing it would be.
On adoption day, Caron arrived at rescue founder Toni Daniels' home. Just minutes into their meeting, Toni suddenly felt dizzy and sick to her stomach. Within moments, she collapsed. Caron immediately called 911, staying by her side, holding her hand, and coaching her to breathe.
Toni was having a severe STEMI heart attack—the most dangerous kind. Paramedics arrived just in time, and doctors later told her that if Caron had arrived just 15 minutes later, she might not have survived.
That day, Zoey found a forever home, and Toni gained a second chance at life. “We rescue dogs, but sometimes, they rescue us,” Toni said.

Could you pay $10,000 for a pet emergency?
Unexpected vet bills can be a financial burden, with some procedures costing $10,000+. Without coverage, you’d have to cover these expenses out of pocket.
Pet insurance companies can offer up to 90% reimbursement for covered claims, providing peace of mind and protection against expensive medical bills.
Don’t let unexpected vet bills stress you out. Protect your pet and your finances with top-rated pet insurance.

Training a Rescue Dog? Read This First
Bringing home a rescue dog is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming, especially if your new pup is nervous or unsure. The key to a smooth transition? Patience, consistency, and a focus on trust. Before jumping into training, spend time building a bond with your dog. Let them explore at their own pace, reward calm behavior, and create a safe space where they can decompress.
Start with the basics: house training and crate training. A crate, when introduced positively, can be a comforting retreat and a helpful potty-training tool. Keep bathroom breaks frequent and consistent—always take your pup to the same spot and reward them immediately for doing their business. Routine is your best friend here.
Once your dog feels more secure, begin working on simple cues like “sit” and “stay.” Training sessions should be short, fun, and reward-based. Avoid punishment—your rescue may have past experiences that make them more sensitive to harsh corrections. If challenges arise, a professional obedience class can help both you and your dog navigate the process.
Rescue dogs may take time to adjust, but with patience and positive reinforcement, they’ll transform into loving, loyal companions.
