Fall Snacks For Your Dog
Pumpkin spice may be everywhere this season, and now your pup can join in on the fall fun, too, with these recipes. From crisp apple slices to homemade pumpkin biscuits, there are plenty of safe, tasty ways to celebrate the season together.
Pumpkin is a star ingredient for dogs, whether baked into carrot cupcakes or whisked into frozen pumpkin-and-coconut oil bites. Carrots add beta-carotene for eye health, while coconut oil offers a boost for skin and coat. With festive cookie cutters or molds, these treats look as good as they smell.
Sweet potatoes are another fall favorite. Simply slice, bake, and dry them into chewy chips that keep well in the fridge for weeks. Dogs also love apples, which provide fiber and crunch when sliced and cored.
These recipes are simple, wholesome, and tail-wag approved. Perfect for cozy nights in or crisp afternoons outside with your dog.

Dog of the Day, Sgt. Pepper
Meet Sgt. Pepper, a 1-year, 7-month-old Havanese with serious star quality. This lively little guy has a heart full of joy, a fridge full of carrots (his treat of choice), and a signature move: the twirl. He’ll gladly show off his tricks, especially if there’s a snack involved.
Sgt. Pepper isn’t just a performer; he’s also the friendliest face on the block. He loves mingling with dogs, humans, and even cats, and when he’s not working the crowd, you’ll find him on neighborhood watch.
Thanks to Alicia for sharing this energetic, treat-loving social butterfly! Want to spotlight your pup next? Send us a photo and a few fun facts. We’d love to feature them in Daily Dig!

Anyone with more than one dog knows mealtime can get competitive. But research from Vienna shows that pups are also surprisingly generous, at least when it comes to their friends.
Scientists at the Messerli Research Institute trained dogs to recognize tokens that could “buy” food rewards. Some tokens gave a treat to the dog pressing it, while others gave treats to a partner dog or to no one at all. When given the choice, dogs were far more likely to choose the token that rewarded a familiar friend.
In fact, the study found dogs picked tokens that gave food to their pals nearly three times more often than those that rewarded stranger dogs.
This behavior is considered “prosocial”: voluntary actions that benefit another of the same species. Once thought to be mostly human, prosocial behavior is now recognized in dogs and other animals, too. Turns out, dogs may value friendship in ways that look a lot like ours!
