Josh Hutcherson is both a dog person and a full-on shelter advocate. Partnering with the Clear the Shelters campaign, the actor recently spent time at Pasadena Humane cuddling adoptable pups and sharing why adoption matters to him.

Hutcherson adopted his first dog, Driver, at 18, right before The Hunger Games took off. “He’s not a technical service dog, but he helps my anxiety like one,” he says. His second dog, Manchi, joined later and completed the “little unit” that keeps him grounded no matter where he is.

He says nothing beats swimming with his pit bulls or staying in for a snuggle session. But these days, his goal is clear: find homes for every dog still waiting in shelters.

“Just go meet them,” he says. “Your best friend might be one scratch spot away.”

Meet Lucy, a Chihuahua–Miniature Pinscher mix with a bright pink collar and an even brighter purpose. She may be small, but she’s had a big journey. From a rescue in Tennessee to her forever home in Florida with Donna.

Adopted in March 2023 after a long road (literally—ten hours in the car!), Lucy settled right in and now shares her joy with others. She’s a certified pet therapy dog, visiting patients at a local hospital every Tuesday. When Donna tells her it’s time for work, Lucy’s all in, because cheering people up is her specialty.
