DIY Dog Costumes for Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner, which means it’s time to start planning what your dog is going to wear! Let’s be real—they’re going to look amazing in any costume, whether it’s cute or spooky. We’ve rounded up some easy DIY dog costumes that are sure to make tails wag and trick-or-treaters smile.

Classic Ghost. What screams Halloween more than a ghost? This costume is as easy as it gets and a classic for a reason! Grab an old white flat sheet, cut out holes for your pup’s eyes and snout, and you’ve got yourself a ghost pup. If you’re planning to take your dog trick-or-treating, just make sure the sheet isn’t too big so they can walk comfortably.

Beanie Baby. If your dog isn’t a fan of dressing up, this one’s perfect. Turn them into a nostalgic Beanie Baby! Simply create an oversized tag from cardboard shaped like a heart, paint it to mimic the iconic TY tag, and attach it to their collar. Instant cuteness without any fuss!

Business Pup. Got a big dog with a big personality? Look through your closet for a button-down shirt and tie. This costume is all about business—but let’s be honest, your pup’s going to look goofy as ever in such serious attire. They’ll be the cutest coworker at any Halloween gathering!

Scary Spider. Your dog is already on all fours, so why not dress them up as a spooky crawling spider? All you need is some giant chenille pipe cleaners. Cut eight equal lengths, bend them into legs, and attach them to your dog’s collar or harness. Your pup will be ready to spin a web of fun!

Bat. Cut bat wings from black poster board or felt and add some flair with a metallic marker. Attach the wings to your dog’s collar or harness and they’re ready! This costume looks especially great on black pups – they’ll blend in effortlessly as a bat.

Beach Vacation Tourist. Let your dog embrace the beach life in style with a colorful Hawaiian shirt for Halloween! Whether it’s borrowed from your closet or your kid's, pair it with some cool sunglasses, and top it off with a festive lei.

Zebra or Tiger. Let your dog’s wild side shine with simple stripes from nontoxic paint! For white pups, add black stripes to create a zebra look, and for black pups, white stripes will do the trick. For a brown-coated dog, turn them into a fierce tiger with some orange and black stripes. They'll really get into character when they start barking at the knocks from trick-or-treaters!

What DIY costume will your pup be rocking this year? Or do you have other ideas? We’d love to hear them – and even better, send us some pictures!

Fun Ways to Celebrate Halloween With Your Pup

Have you ever let your dog join in on the Halloween fun? Spooky season isn’t just for humans—there are plenty of ways to celebrate together! Here are some exciting ideas to make this Halloween one to remember for both you and your pup.

Join a Pet Parade. Many towns and cities host pet costume contests and parades where your pup can strut their stuff! Check your favorite pet stores or your town’s website to find fun local events where your dog can join in the Halloween excitement. You’ll be surprised at how many events there are.

Host a Costume Party. Throwing a party is always a blast, but a party for dogs? That’s next-level fun! Invite your neighbors and their pups for a day filled with Halloween festivities—think costume contests, homemade treats, and games. Is there anything better than a house full of dogs in costumes? As if they weren’t already cute enough!

Go Trick-or-Treating. If your dog can handle the excitement, bring them along for trick-or-treating! They’ll love tagging along with the family, and you can even give them some dog-friendly treats along the way. Just be sure they’re comfy in their costume!

Bake Dog Treats. Get in the kitchen and whip up some Halloween-themed goodies for your pup. Use festive cookie-cutter shapes and bake treats with flavors they’ll drool over— like pumpkin, bacon, or maple.

Watch Scary Movies. If big events or outings feel a bit overwhelming for you or your dog, a cozy movie night is the perfect way to celebrate Halloween. Cuddle up on the couch with your pup and watch a scary movie or a dog-themed classic. Your dog will be right by your side to snuggle during the spooky or sad moments!

What’s your favorite way to celebrate Halloween with your dog? We’d love to hear all about it!
