Yorkshire Terriers may be small, but they don’t seem to know it. We think that’s half their charm! These pint-sized pups pack the confidence of a Great Dane with the energy of a squirrel on espresso.

Originally bred to hunt rats in 19th-century England, Yorkies traded in coal mines for velvet laps when they caught the attention of Victorian ladies. Their human-like hair, loyal streak, and spunky nature made them instant favorites. And today, they’re still one of the most popular breeds in the U.S.

Don’t let the topknot fool you: Yorkies love mental challenges. Trick training, food puzzles, and agility games keep their sharp minds engaged. But they’re just as happy curled up on your shoulder, soaking up all the love.

If you’ve ever been greeted by a Yorkie’s happy spin or met one that thinks they’re 50 pounds bigger than they are, you already get it. They’re proof that joy can come in tiny but very spunky packages.

You don’t picture a 6-foot-5 NFL coach sipping Starbucks with a five-pound Yorkie in his lap, but that’s exactly what Dan Campbell’s wife posted last season. After a Lions win over Jacksonville, Holly Campbell shared the shot, and the internet immediately fell in love.

The pup, a teacup Yorkie named Thelma, has been part of the Campbell family for over a decade. Dan once called her “the sweetest thing ever” and even shared that Thelma and her late companion, Louise, used to tag along on coffee runs and cuddle in his armpit at night. Louise, he said, had more of a stubborn streak—a trait he likened to some of his players.

It’s not every day you see a hard-nosed football coach talk openly about his little dogs. But that’s what fans love. Big guy, tiny pup, and a soft spot that reminds us even football coaches love Yorkies.
