True or False?

Dogsā€™ noses may turn lighter during winter months.

What Kind of Dog Parent Are You?

How do you see your pup? Are they just a pet, your furry BFF, or your four-legged child? According to a new study, how we view our dogs might have a lot to do with our age.

Researchers surveyed 790 dog owners and identified three main "dog parent" types: the companion group (seeing dogs as friends), the dog parents (treating dogs like children), and the dual-status group (a mix of both).

Hereā€™s the twist: younger pet parents were far more likely to see their dogs as children, even going so far as to claim their pups are ā€œmore important than humans.ā€ Meanwhile, older dog owners leaned toward viewing their dogs as companions or working partners.

However, how we view our pets does not change how much we care for them. While ā€œdog parentsā€ were more likely to feel protective, all groups shared one thing: an undeniable love for their dogs. Whether training with positive reinforcement, playing fetch, or enjoying cuddle time, every owner prioritizes their pupā€™s happiness and well-being.

So, what kind of dog parent are you? No matter the label, one thing is clear: dogs make our lives better, and we wouldnā€™t trade them for the world.

Winter Walkies: Protect Your Dogā€™s Paws from the Cold

We love winter walks with our dogs but the cold, ice, and salt can be harmful to their paws. Here are some of our favorite tips to keep those feet safe during chilly weather:

Booties: Love them or loathe them, dog boots are a top way to protect your pupā€™s paws. They help shield against cold, snow, and salt while providing warmth and coverage. Plus, they keep their paw pads nice and dry! Just make sure you measure your dogā€™s paws (heel to toenail) to get the perfect fit.

Paw Balm: Before heading out into the snow, slather on some paw balm. This protects your dogā€™s paws from the drying effects of salt and ice. After the walk, reapply to keep their paws soft and smooth.

Towel Off: After your dogā€™s winter adventures, keep a towel nearby to wipe down their paws. This removes any salt, ice, or debris theyā€™ve picked up on their walk. For extra protection, dunk their paws in a bucket of warm water to rinse off any harmful residue.

Shorter Walks: In extreme cold, itā€™s best to keep walks brief. If itā€™s too cold for you, itā€™s probably too cold for your dog, too! And donā€™t forget to bundle them up in a cozy jacket if needed.
