Pick a Morning Ritual for You and Your Pup

We all know how much benefit we can get from having a structured, intentional morning: it increases productivity, lowers our stress, and overall gives us a great start to the day. But have you ever thought about sharing that morning ritual with your dog? Incorporating your pup into your morning routine sets a positive tone and strengthens your bond. Here are a few ways to create a morning ritual that benefits both you and your pup!

Wake Up Together. Dogs thrive on routine, so setting an alarm for the same time every day—yes, even on weekends—can keep your pup's internal clock in sync with yours. If your dog already wakes you up early every morning, then you might not need an alarm! Start your day with some cozy snuggles before getting out of bed. Use this quiet time to write in a journal, jot down what you’re grateful for, or even meditate. Most of us want to build a practice like journaling or meditating but struggle if we put it off. Doing it before you even get out of bed will increase your chances of making it a habit! Combining snuggles with your pup and a bit of mindfulness will leave you feeling grounded and your pup feeling loved!

Take a Morning Walk. A morning walk is a perfect way to start the day. Dogs need to stretch their legs and get some exercise before their full day of… napping and snacking. Plus, stepping outside first thing in the morning is amazing for you too—morning sunlight helps regulate our sleep-wake cycle by boosting melatonin production! If you don’t have a yard, a morning walk may already be a necessity. Even if it’s part of your daily routine, try to view it as a mindful ritual rather than just another chore.

Your morning walk can be a quick stroll or a longer, slower-paced one if your schedule allows it. Make it a mindful experience: let your dog stop and sniff whatever plants or grass spots they like, take a moment to listen to the birds, and maybe even stop for a relaxing sit together. Plus, if you end up going for a longer walk, your pup will be so pooped they might just nap until noon—leaving you with some uninterrupted time to tackle your tasks for the day! And of course, you know your dog best, so decide how long is enough for them based on their age and health needs.

Serve Breakfast for Two. Breakfast is a must, so make it enjoyable! Start your day with your favorite cup of coffee, tea, or whatever gets you going. Treat yourself to a nutritious breakfast – granola, fruit, toast and eggs, or whatever sounds good. But for this intentional ritual, don’t forget your pup! Serve them a morning meal, or if you prefer to stick to a later mealtime, opt for an engaging puzzle toy or feeding game. That way, while you savor your breakfast, your pup can get a mental workout with tasty treats. A stimulating breakfast can help keep them calm and content throughout the day!

Whatever morning ritual you choose with your pup, it’ll be a win for both of you! What does your morning look like with your doggo? We’d love to hear how you start your day together!

Find me on instagram @cmanashuete !!! - Pinta looks like a dog, but she’s more like a person. Whenever you try to treat her like the other dogs, she will just stare at you like saying: “Why are you doing this to me, i’n nothing like them”. One of the things she likes most of being a dog-person is sleeping under our sheets, specially when I wake up early and she can take my place into bed, still warm, smelling like me and side to side with her beloved human daddy. Under the bed sheets, she always gives me this look, like saying: “I’m home”.

3 Ways Our Dogs Keep Us Accountable and Healthy

We all know dogs bring us joy and unconditional love, but did you know they can also help us stay on track and boost our health? When you bring a dog into your life, you’re committing to a relationship that’s as rewarding as it is demanding. And guess what? This commitment is exactly what many of us need to stay motivated and focused on our health – one of the most important things in life that we have direct control over.

Our pups keep us accountable because they rely on us for their well-being, which in turn benefits our own. They truly are the best – and you don’t need me to tell you that! Here are three important ways our pups help us stay healthy.

  1. They Make Us Move

Dogs make us exercise, whether we like it or not. They paw at us, bring us balls, or even drag us to the leash. The point is that they’re master motivators and practically drag us outside. This daily dose of dog-powered exercise is what keeps us healthy and active. Since our pups need regular exercise, that means you’re getting it, too. They hold us accountable because, as dog owners, exercising our pups is part of the job!

Studies have shown that dog owners are nearly four times more likely to hit their daily exercise goals. On average, dog owners walk 22 minutes more per day compared to non-dog owners. So, the next time your pup is nudging you for a game of fetch or a walk, remember: they’re not just after fun—they’re helping you stay fit!

  1. They Tune Into Our Feelings

Our dogs keep our mental health in check, picking up on our feelings and always being there when we need them. When we’re stressed or anxious, they might become extra affectionate, clingy, or even show signs of anxiety themselves. If you notice this, it might be a sign to check in on your own mental health. Who needs a therapist when you have a dog? (Just kidding—definitely keep your therapist!)

Spending time with your pup, whether it’s petting, playing, or really any kind of interaction, has been shown to lower stress and anxiety. Plus, as we mentioned earlier, regular exercise with your dog is a great way to tackle anxiety and stress. So, your pup isn’t just a companion—they’re a partner in managing your mental well-being!

  1. They Give Us Purpose

Owning a dog comes with a whole new set of responsibilities: feeding, grooming, exercising, and vet visits. But this sense of duty can be incredibly motivating, especially for those struggling with depression or searching for purpose. Caring for a dog means taking responsibility for another sentient being—a wonderful opportunity that can shift our perspective on life. Dogs have a way of showing us the simple joys: stretching on the couch, rolling on the rug, cuddling, and sunbathing.

Programs like Pawsitive Change show just how impactful this dynamic can be. They bring rescue dogs to prisons, where inmates care for and train them. The results? More dogs find their forever homes, and inmates often experience a drop in recidivism rates. So, while you’re helping your dog thrive, they're helping you find a deeper sense of meaning.

Australian Shepherd Does Morning Yoga

This incredible video of a dog mom and her Australian Shepherd doing yoga is jaw-dropping! We already know Aussies are among the most intelligent dog breeds, but this takes it to a whole new level! In the video, Secret, the Aussie, starts off the practice by rolling out the mat with her nose. She then joins her owner in poses like Cobra, twists, and of course, Downward Dog (they had to do that one, right?). The sight of Secret lifting her little paws and reaching for them is almost too cute to handle. By the time of this video, they had been doing yoga together for five years. Just imagine the training it took for Secret to become such an accomplished yogi!
