One Dog at a Time, One Field Goal at a Time

Philadelphia Eagles kicker Jake Elliott is turning his talent on the field into something even more meaningful off the field—helping dogs find loving homes.

As shelters across the country struggle with overcrowding, Jake and his wife Annie have stepped in to make a difference. For every field goal Jake makes this season, the couple will cover the adoption fees for a dog at Street Tails Animal Rescue, where they adopted their own pups, Willy and Roxy. He announced this amazing news in an Instagram video, holding his tiny pups in his arms.

Jake's already off to a great start, having covered two adoption fees so far, and we can't wait to see how many more lives will be changed throughout the season. It's beautiful to see a professional athlete use his platform to give back in such a meaningful way—hopefully, this will inspire others to do the same!

Must-Visit Dog Cafés Across the U.S.

Dogs deserve to go anywhere... well, at least we think so! While cat cafĂ©s have been trending across the U.S., dog cafĂ©s are making their mark—and we’re here for it. Though only one dog cafĂ© mirrors the popular cat cafĂ© model—where you can sip coffee and meet adoptable pups—there are plenty of others. Let’s check out some of the coolest dog cafĂ©s across the U.S.!

The Dog Café, Los Angeles, CA

This is the first-ever dog café in the U.S., modeled after the popular cat café concept where you can interact with adoptable animals while enjoying your favorite cup of coffee (or whatever your go-to order is!). The kind and helpful staff make it a lovely spot, whether you're considering adoption or just want to spend time with some adorable pups.

Boris & Horton, New York City, NY

Boris & Horton is a dog-themed cafĂ© where you and your pup can grab a bite together. While you can’t adopt dogs here, you can bring your own dog to enjoy some treats and play. The cafĂ© hosts breed meet-ups, pet portrait sessions, and other fun events for dog parents.

Rollover Café, Wells, Maine

Traveling through Maine? Rollover Café is the perfect laid-back stop for a coffee break with your dog. They serve breakfast wraps and coffee for humans, along with a four-legged menu. Your pup can enjoy a breakfast option with scrambled eggs, spinach, tomatoes, and carrots, or a lunch option featuring grilled chicken with the same healthy veggies. After this kind of service, your dog might start demanding all their meals here!

Lost Dog Café, Virginia

With five locations across Virginia, Lost Dog CafĂ© is a favorite for its delicious food, coffee, and beer. You won’t find adoptable dogs here, but they proudly support local rescue organizations. Honestly, what’s not to love? I’d gladly spend all of my money here — and my dog wouldn’t stop me!

Dogue, San Francisco, CA

Want to spoil your pup (who are we kidding, we spoil them every day)? Dogue is the place to go. This luxury dog restaurant takes it to the next level, offering gourmet meals from wild antelope and beetroot mousse to doggucinos. Each dish is lovingly prepared by a chef with a passionate philosophy: feed fresh, whole food that’s in season and as close to its natural source as possible. Your pup will feel like royalty here – as they should.

Mutts Canine Cantina, Dallas & Fort Worth, TX

This dog-friendly restaurant is a dream for both pups and their parents! Mutts Canine Cantina features two off-leash parks, allowing your dog to run and play while you enjoy food and drinks. It’s the perfect casual hangout for dog lovers to enjoy quality time with their pups in a safe and fun environment.

Jacksonville Dog Café, Jacksonville, FL

This dog cafĂ© takes a fun approach to the dog cafĂ© experience by going mobile! The cafĂ© holds events at parks, shelters, and pet stores, serving coffee from their mobile cart while giving you the chance to meet adoptable pups. It sounds like the best way to enjoy coffee and support local rescues—who knows, you might even find your new best friend!

Pups & Cups Café, Pullman, WA

This hidden gem in Washington is a wonderful spot for dog parents looking to grab a coffee while their pups enjoy some off-leash fun. This café gives your dogs plenty of toys for playtime and even doggy cupcakes.

Coby’s CafĂ©, Seattle, WA

This new dog-centric cafĂ© is quickly becoming a favorite hangout for local dog lovers. Coby’s CafĂ© is dedicated to creating a warm, inviting space where both people and their pups can enjoy coffee, treats, and great company. They emphasize that every pup is treated like family, which is what all dog parents want to hear.

What made it stand out for you? Whether it was a cozy spot with adoptable dogs or a fun hangout for you and your pup, we’d love to hear about your experience!

8 Questions to Ask Before Bringing a Pup Home

It’s exciting to reach a point in your life where you feel ready to add a pup to your family. But before making the final decision, it’s always a good idea to pause and check in with yourself to make sure you're truly prepared. Here are 8 essential questions to ask yourself before getting a dog:

  1. Why do I want to adopt a dog?

What’s driving you to bring a dog into your life (aside from everyone saying it’s the best decision ever)? Are you longing for an adventure buddy, or maybe a cozy snuggle companion? To receive unconditional love and take care of a sentient being? Clarifying your motivation is the first step to making this long-term decision. It’s not just about the excitement of getting a dog right now—it’s a relationship that could last over a decade. Think about the role you want your new pup to play in your life and, more importantly, the role you want to play in theirs.

  1. Can a dog fit into my lifestyle?

Do you have a packed schedule or more flexibility? Dogs need consistent time for walks, play, and training. If you’re gone for work all day, are you committed to spending your late afternoons or evenings with them? Many people fall in love with a specific breed, but sometimes their lifestyle doesn’t match the dog's needs, and that’s not fair to the pup. This is also a great moment to think about age. Puppies are adorable and fun, but they require significant effort to train and socialize. Would a sweet senior dog better suit your lifestyle? It’s important to honestly assess whether you have the time and energy to meet a dog's needs or if a lower-maintenance pet might be a better fit.

  1. What dog personality will complement mine?

Just like your lifestyle, your personality plays a big role in choosing the right pup. Some are shy and anxious, while others are excitable and outgoing. Some thrive on constant human interaction, while others enjoy more solitude. Finding a pup whose personality complements yours can help create the most special bond. That said, sometimes having a dog that pushes you to get out more or be social can be a great motivator if that’s something you want to work on!

  1. Do I know how to care for a dog?

This might seem like a silly question, but caring for a dog isn't always as intuitive as it seems. Just because most people have dogs doesn’t mean it’s easy! Make sure you’re well-prepared before bringing a pupper home. Read up on dog care, research online, and talk to shelter staff and every dog owner in your circle. The more you know, the smoother the transition will be for both you and your new pup!

  1. What’s my home environment like?

Do you live in a small apartment or a house with a yard? High-energy dogs need room to run and play, while more laid-back breeds can do well in smaller spaces. It’s also important to ask yourself if your housing situation is stable. It’s also important to consider the stability of your housing. Adopting a pup is a major life change for both of you, and you want to ensure they aren’t faced with too many big transitions right away. Providing a home with stability is essential to help pups settle in and feel at home.

  1. Can I handle the financial responsibility?

Adopting a dog comes with many costs, including food, toys, leashes, grooming, and regular vet visits. And don’t forget about the unexpected — accidents or illnesses can lead to emergency vet bills. While no one plans for these situations, being financially prepared to handle both the routine and unforeseen expenses is a vital part of being a responsible dog parent.

  1. Am I ready for the long-term commitment?

Dogs can be part of your life for 10, 15, or even more years. Their needs will change as they grow, and being ready for those transitions is crucial. Are you prepared to care for a dog through all stages of its life—from energetic puppyhood to senior years? Including your pup in your long-term plans is an honor and a rewarding journey, but it requires commitment and dedication. Are you ready for that lifelong bond?

  1. Will everyone in my household be ok with a dog?

It’s important to consider how your current pets will react to a new dog in the house. Introductions can take time, and it’s normal for there to be some hissing, growling, or boundary-setting in the beginning. Think about how you’ll manage those first meetings and whether you can keep the pets separated if needed. Also, don’t forget to consider everyone else in your household. Dogs become part of the family, so it’s essential that everyone agrees on the decision.
