Chris Pine Shares Life Lessons from His Rescue Pitties

Actor Chris Pine is a dog lover and parent, just like all of us who are reading this. As a proud dog dad to two rescue pups, he thinks theyā€™ve changed his life for the better (and we can all relate!). In an interview with PEOPLE, Pine shared some of the lessons heā€™s learned from his rescue dogs, especially his first ā€“ Wednesday. Sheā€™s a Pit Bull who taught him three beautiful things: love, kindness, and patience.

Pine grew up with his childhood dog, Lucy, who passed away when he was in his twenties. He was studying abroad at the time and recalled it as a 'shattering' experience. After 15 years without a dog, he adopted his rescue pup Wednesday in 2016, and she changed everythingā€”from teaching him how to love more deeply to approaching the world with more compassion.

Pine said being a dog parent has prepared him for future parenthood, should he choose that path. He talked about how training a dog teaches you patienceā€”not just for them but for yourself. Whether it's house training or dealing with a torn-up couch, the process reminds us to respond with kindness rather than frustration.

Six years after adopting Wednesday, Pine adopted another rescue pittie named Babs. He describes the bond he shares with his pups as ā€œprofound and heart-openingā€ and says that ā€œmorning cuddlesā€ are one of the best parts of his day. Mine too, Chris Pine!

How to Take Your Dog Trick-or-Treating

Trick-or-treating is for everyone on Halloweenā€”moms with their littles, groups of teenagers, friends... and dogs! Yes, you can totally take your dog trick-or-treating. Thereā€™s no rule against it, right? Just picture your pup in a cute costume, trotting door to door. Before you head out, there are a few things to consider to make sure it's the right fit for your dog, and how to have a safe night together.

Is Trick-or-Treating Right for Your Pup?

Trick-or-treating is meant to be a family eventā€”including your dogā€”but youā€™ll want to assess if your dog will actually enjoy it. Big crowds, strange costumes, and loud noises can be overwhelming. But if your dog is calm, social, and loves interacting with others, it might just be the best night ever for them!

Keep Them Safe!

Always Keep Them Leashed: Keep your pup on a leash to ensure they're safely by your side, especially if they get spooked. Make sure their collar has ID tags, just in case. A reflective or light-up collar is also a good idea for visibilityā€”so trick-or-treaters see thereā€™s a doggo walking around!

  • Dog Treats On Hand: Keep candy far away from your pup, but donā€™t forget to bring along dog-friendly treats so they donā€™t miss out on the fun. Itā€™s also a perfect reward for being such a good trick-or-treater!

  • Comfortable Costume: If your dog is dressing up, make sure their costume is comfortable and allows them to move freely. After all, theyā€™ll be walking with you through the neighborhood for a while!

  • Pay Attention: Stay in tune with your pupā€™s behavior. If you notice signs of them being tired or anxious, itā€™s time to head home! Remember, this is a new experience for them, full of unfamiliar sights, sounds, and smells. However long they last is more than enough for a good time!

Have you ever gone trick-or-treating with your pup? Do you plan to this year? Weā€™d love to hear about your Halloween experiences!

This New Toilet Paper Just Might Save the Planet

Every 24 hours, 27,000 trees are cut down to make toilet paper. To us, that feels like way too many ā€” and Honeycomb agrees. Thatā€™s why this small, female-founded brand created luxury, three-ply toilet tissue made from bamboo. It feels just like regular high-end toilet paper but doesnā€™t harm trees.

So why bamboo? Itā€™s the fastest-growing plant in the world ā€” growing 100 times faster than the average tree ā€” which means thousands of rolls can be produced in the time it takes for a single tree to grow back.

Even better? Code DIG30 will give new customers 30% off their first order for the next 24 hours.

Thank you to Honeycomb for sponsoring Daily Dig.

Small Dogs vs. Big Dogs: Which Is Your Perfect Match?

Choosing between a big or small dog is a pretty real-life decision. We all know that no matter their size, dogs are lovable companions and capable of bringing so much more joy than we can even imagine. But the real question is ā€” which one fits your lifestyle?

If you're living in a cozy apartment, a small dog could be the perfect cuddle buddy. They donā€™t need much space and some can be happy with short walks (unless you have a Russell Terrier!). Plus, if you dream of taking your dog everywhere ā€” the cafĆ©, stores, even the airport ā€” small dogs are like little portable pals. But, fair warning, they might bring a little sass with them (itā€™s just part of their nature!). Some small pups are also prone to anxiety and can be a bit high-strung.

On the flip side, big dogs are perfect if youā€™ve got room to roam and love outdoor adventures. They make the best hiking partners and might even give you that extra sense of safety at home. Plus, when it comes to hugs, theyā€™re like furry humans ā€” you can really squeeze them tight! Just be prepared for larger food bills and the need for more space.

At the end of the day, it's all about your lifestyle. Whether you're looking for a tiny adventurer or a big, lovable giant, your perfect pup is out there. Have you had experience with different-sized pups? What differences have you noticed? Are you a small dog lover or a big dog lover at heart? Weā€™d love to hear!

Final Bark

In the time it takes to read todayā€™s edition, an estimated 93 trees will be cut down to meet toilet paper demand. Honeycomb is helping to change that with luxury, three-ply tissue made from sustainable bamboo. Itā€™s biodegradable, plastic-free, and will be delivered straight to you.

New customers can use code DIG30 for 30% off their first shipment. Expires tonight.
