How a Dog Made Headlines at the Winter Olympics
Nazgul, a two-year-old Czechoslovakian wolfdog, became a sensation at the 2026 Winter Olympics after crashing a womenās cross-country team sprint qualification race. The mischievous dog escaped from a nearby bed-and-breakfast and, thinking heād found a game of chase, joined the race with Olympians from Team Croatia and Team Australia.
Nazgulās surprise appearance caught the attention of skiers, volunteers, and even the announcers, who jokingly remarked about the "nice mutt" interrupting the race. His presence didnāt disrupt the raceās outcome, but it certainly added some unexpected excitement. Skier Tena Hadzic humorously recalled wondering if she was hallucinating as Nazgul came up to say hello after the race.
Despite his impromptu Olympic debut, Nazgulās owner, who remains anonymous, believes his dog just wanted to follow them. With his 15 seconds of fame, Nazgul made waves in the media, becoming a viral sensation and earning the love of Olympic fans everywhere.

Why Is Your Dog Eating Non-Food Items?
If your dog has developed the habit of chewing on or eating non-food items, they could be dealing with a condition called pica. Itās estimated that nearly 73% of dogs suffer from pica, a behavior where dogs repeatedly consume things like socks, plastic, or even dirt. While it may seem harmless, pica can lead to serious health issues like choking and intestinal blockages.
There are a few reasons why your dog might be munching on non-food items. It could be a sign of a nutritional imbalance or an emotional need, like anxiety or boredom. The best thing you can do is take your dog to the vet for a check-up. Your vet will help pinpoint the cause and recommend a combination of treatment options, including changes in diet, behavior modification, and in some cases, medication.
At home, keeping tempting items out of reach and offering more mental stimulation and physical activity can help prevent your dog from indulging in dangerous habits. Pet insurance can also provide peace of mind, covering unexpected vet bills that can arise from the treatment of pica-related complications.
