Why You Raise Dogs Like Your Parents Raised You
Ever find yourself calling your dog āsweetieā like your mom didāor enforcing bedtime like your dad used to? Turns out, itās not just muscle memory. A new study suggests that the way we raise our dogs is often a reflection of how we were raised ourselves.
Researchers found that people tend to carry their childhood parenting experiences into how they treat their pets. If you grew up in a warm, supportive environment, chances are your pup is living the good lifeācomplete with belly rubs, gentle guidance, and a spot on the couch. On the flip side, stricter childhood homes might lead to firmer boundaries or more rules for your dog.
Itās not a perfect one-to-one match. Some people go out of their way to do things differently than their parents didāand thatās part of the point.
Our upbringing shapes how we care for others, including the four-legged family members who rely on us. Whether youāre firm, flexible, or somewhere in between, the good news is simple: if youāre showing love and creating a safe space, youāre doing it right.

Meet Zen: Avalanche Rescue Hero in Italy
In Italyās Dolomites, Zen, a 5-year-old Border Collie, is leading the way in avalanche rescue. Trained to detect buried victims, Zenās sharp nose can locate people faster than any transponder, making him a key player in alpine rescues. With more avalanches happening each year, the need for rescue dogs like Zen is rising.
Over the past 25 years, avalanches in Italy have increased by 50%, making rescue dogs more essential than ever. Zen recently demonstrated his skills by sniffing out a buried skier in the snow, showing new dogs the ropes. His handler, Paolo Sbisa, emphasizes the deep bond between dog and handler, noting that without trust, these rescues wouldnāt be possible.
While dogs like Zen can save lives, thereās a critical window for survivalāvictims must be found within the first 15 minutes. After that, the chances of survival drop drastically. With changing weather patterns leading to more hazardous snow conditions, the role of these dogs is becoming even more vital in saving lives.

Dog of the Day: Meet Gracie
Meet Gracie, a 3-year-old Cavalier King Charles who spreads joy as a therapy dog. With her gentle nature and loving personality, sheās on a mission to brighten peopleās days, especially the veterans in New Hampshire. Gracieās warm heart and tail wags are a reminder of the healing power of love and companionship. Keep shining, Gracie!
