Two-year-old Wheelbur, a spirited black retriever-lab mix, has been waiting for a forever home, but thanks to The Dog Breath Foundation’s Greatest Adventure Tour, his search just got a whole lot more exciting.

When Wheelbur was a tiny puppy, a tragic accident left him with a severed spinal cord. Now, he gets around using his wheels—or when he's at home, his two front legs. His courage and resilience have made him a favorite at Scoot for the Stars, a rescue for dogs with special needs.

To showcase Wheelbur’s zest for life, the non-profit’s founder and photographer Kaylee Greer took him on an unforgettable adventure photoshoot. The photoshoot captured his joyful spirit and love for life perfectly, with the beautiful outdoor backdrops adding an extra touch of magic. With his big, bright smile and adventurous heart, Wheelbur’s photos show him rolling confidently in his wheelchair, ready for any challenge.

“He now lives his life on two legs and is one of the happiest, most loving dogs,” the rescue shared on Instagram, beaming with pride over Wheelbur’s journey. He’s lived happily with cats and dogs, is always ready to play, and will even bring his own wheels and goodies to his new family.

Though Scoot for the Stars is in Nevada, Wheelbur can be adopted anywhere in the United States, widening his search for his perfect match to find him from near or far. We hope he finds his forever home soon—and after this incredible photoshoot, we doubt it’ll take very long!

Our dogs are our favorites, but are we theirs? Dogs bond with everyone in the household, but there's usually that one person they can’t get enough of. Especially when that favorite human leaves and your pup is left peering sadly out the window, wondering how they could be left with the “spare” human. Let’s find out if this favoritism is real!

Dogs do play favorites! If your pup shadows you, looks to you for guidance, and—my favorite—chooses to follow you upstairs even when everyone else is downstairs, you might just be their #1. And don’t be offended if their choice surprises you! Sometimes the favorite isn’t the main caregiver but rather the family member who gives the best belly rubs or plays tug-of-war the longest.

Building the Bond

Dogs often bond strongest with the person who was there during their early socialization period (birth to 6 months). This is when their little puppy minds are open to the world. But don’t worry if your dog joins you later in life; bonding through love and positive experiences is always possible – all of us rescue dog parents know that! It’s the continued bonding that matters the most.

No worries! Spend one-on-one time with them, give plenty of treats and praise, and build up those positive associations. Don’t forget the physical affection, either – cuddles, roughhousing, good boy pats. Over time, you might just become their go-to human for life!
