How a Rescue Oxygen Kit Can Save Your Pet's Life

Pet oxygen masks, once primarily used by emergency responders, are now becoming a staple in many pet owners' homes. These masks are designed to deliver oxygen to pets experiencing respiratory distress, providing critical support during emergencies or chronic health episodes.

Flat-nosed breeds, such as pugs and bulldogs, often suffer from brachycephalic airway syndrome, making them more susceptible to breathing difficulties. Oxygen masks tailored for pets can offer immediate relief in such situations.

Senior dogs, too, can benefit from at-home oxygen therapy, especially those with conditions like congestive heart failure or pulmonary hypertension. Devices like the PureVent Pet Oxygen Mask are designed to reduce carbon dioxide rebreathing by up to 80%, ensuring safer and more effective oxygen delivery.

These kits are available for purchase without a prescription, making them accessible for proactive pet owners. However, it's essential to consult with a veterinarian to ensure proper usage and to determine if your pet would benefit from such a device.

Emergencies Strike Without Warning: Are You A Prepared Pet Parent?

Pet CPR Basics Explained

If your dog stopped breathing, would you know what to do? Pet CPR isn’t just for vets or professionals—it’s something every dog parent can learn. The Red Cross now offers an online course to teach cat and dog first aid, including how to perform CPR in a crisis.

Pet CPR starts with checking for breathing and a heartbeat. If you can’t find either, you begin chest compressions: 30 quick, firm pushes followed by two rescue breaths. The correct hand placement depends on your dog’s size and chest shape, but the goal is always the same: restore circulation until help arrives.

Flat-nosed dogs like pugs or bulldogs, and older pets with health issues, are especially at risk during emergencies. Knowing CPR can buy crucial time before you reach a vet.

The course is self-paced and online, making it easy to fit into your schedule. You might never need it, but if you do, you'll be glad you learned.

Ranch Dog Rescues Wandering Toddler

When 2-year-old Boden Allen went missing in rural Arizona, hundreds of rescuers joined the search. But it was a 6-year-old Anatolian Pyrenees named Buford who ended up leading the boy to safety. Buford, who usually patrols a ranch near Seligman to keep coyotes away, found the toddler sleeping under a tree about 7 miles from home.

Buford’s owner, rancher Scotty Dunton, says the dog quietly guided Boden back toward the property. He later traced their path and believes Buford stayed with the child for at least a mile. After the rescue, Buford was made an honorary member of the Yavapai County Search and Rescue Team and given his own vest.

Since then, people have been sending Buford everything from chew toys to treats. His quiet bravery has touched strangers around the world.

Boden is back home and doing just fine—still curious and exploring, just a little closer to home now.
