Did you know…?

Joke: What do you call a magician dog?

(scroll to the bottom to find the answer!)

Goldendoodle is Blown Away by Owner's Trick

If you thought dogs couldn’t enjoy a magic trick, you're wrong. This Goldendoodle named Thor watches his owner pull a disappearing ball from his ear, and the Ring camera captures his adorable reaction. The pair lives in Poulsbo, Washington and the owner had never played magic with the pup before.

Thor watches the ball with his eyes until his owner seemingly makes it disappear. Thor instantly begins searching for it with no luck. Eventually, his owner uses his “magic” to pull it from behind the dog’s ear. Thor is shocked. You just have to see it!

Teach Your Dog "Magic" Tricks

A trainer from Fenzi Dog Sports Academy was recently asked if there were any shockingly easy tricks for training a dog. Training is never as easy as just waving your magic wand, but she did share six tricks that work like magic, and everyone should try them with their pups when training.

  1. Reverse Luring involves the dog choosing to stay away from the reinforcement. Instead, the dog focuses on its treat from a distance, which helps it stay on target.

  2. Treat Scatters are one of the easiest ways to help a dog focus. They allow the dog to use its nose and explore a bit, which soothes it.

  3. Location-Specific Markers help dogs practice classical conditioning. You can say “good” and bring the treats to the dog or say “break” and teach the dog to come to you. You can also pick a new word that tells the dog where to get the treat.

  4. Reward Placement teaches dogs to go where we want them to be. It is a common practice when training them to heel.

  5. Clean Training Loops were developed by a horse trainer. The loop has a cue, then behavior, and then a mark before starting over again. It helps remove unwanted behaviors like wandering off.

  6. Obedience Figure Eight helps remove pent-up energy and teaches your dog exactly how to move with you.

Have You Tried This Viral Magic Trick?

We love a viral trend that involves dogs. This new one involves owners throwing their dogs a ball and diving under a blanket. When the dogs come running back, they search for their owner, who is hiding. It’s hilarious to watch the different reactions from the pups. Let us know if you try this on your dog. Don’t forget to set up the camera!
