Read Your Dog's Paw

You’ve probably heard of someone in your life having their palm read at some point to learn more about their future, but have you heard about the ability to read a dog’s paw? It turns out there are six distinct shapes that paw pads can be on dogs.

The Vet Shed recently posted a photo that breaks down what to look for to determine the three character traits your dog has. Compare the drawing with your dog’s foot and see if they have a cloud, rice, semicircular, onigiri, triangular, or rocket shape. Does it match with their personality?

How to Include Your Pup in Juneteenth

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, has a lot of historical significance in the United States. It marks the anniversary of Union General Gordon Granger arriving in Galveston, Texas, to announce the end of slavery, effectively freeing the last remaining enslaved people in the US.

Many dog parents are interested in ways to involve their dogs in the celebrations each year on June 19th. Many cities have parades, street festivals, and other celebrations. The colors red, black, and green have become associated with the day. So, how can you include your pet?

  • Dress them up in pet apparel. Check online shops for special Juneteenth dog apparel or choose items that match the colors.

  • Attend (or host) a dog-friendly cookout. Enjoy a feast with your friends, family, and community, and bring your pup along. A few safe foods for dogs to enjoy as a treat are fresh strawberries, seedless watermelon, or grilled chicken. Dogs also enjoy spending time with you.

  • Support black-owned businesses. Find out if there are black-owned businesses where you can bring your dog along to pick out a new toy or a special snack.

  • Find out if there are pet-friendly community events. Many parades and festivals allow dogs, especially if they are outside. Ensure your dog is comfortable and avoid the heavy crowds, but you can enjoy your time together.

More of Our Favorite DOTD Submissions from Spring

We receive many pictures for our Dog of the Day feature, and it’s impossible to pick which ones to share each week. There were so many incredible submissions this spring that we wanted to share a collection of photos we loved with you on this last day before the official start of summer.

If you want to see your dog featured, make sure to send in your photo (horizontal photos are best) and include some information about your pup and why they are special to you. We love stories and backgrounds about these special dogs and cannot wait to see more!

Thanks, Kelli (Moose), Melissa (Holly Blossom and Bonnie Blue), Kathy (Happy), Ursula (Lilly), Lisa (Jersey), Maggie (Niko), and Suzanne (Koki and Kala) for sharing these adorable pups!
