Director James Gunn says the new movie version of Krypto was inspired by his own rescue dog, Ozu. That’s why many experts believe Krypto is a mixed breed, and that makes sense. Mixed breeds often combine the best of many traits, from bravery to goofiness.

Looking for a dog with that Krypto spark? White German Shepherds are smart and courageous. Russell Terriers pack serious personality in a small frame. Great Pyrenees are protective, while Dalmatians, Labs, and Pit Bulls bring energy and heart.

A superdog doesn’t need superpowers, just a strong bond and a little room to zoom.
