Hurricane Milton was terrifying for everyone… including a Bull Terrier who was found tied to a fence, belly-deep in floodwater as the storm raged on. It’s just gut-wrenching to imagine this poor pup abandoned and scared, but thankfully, a heroic Florida state trooper spotted him along Interstate 75 and rushed to his rescue, getting him to safety just in time.

The brave Bull Terrier, now named 'Trooper' in honor of the officer who rescued him, is currently recovering with the Leon County Humane Society. A look into his rescue showed him barking and frightened as the trooper approached, but the officer stayed calm, speaking gently and reassuring the pup that he understood his fear.

The Humane Society team is unsure how Trooper ended up in such a heartbreaking situation—his nails were neatly trimmed, and he was a healthy weight. It’s likely that he had a home, but no owner has come forward. It’s hard to comprehend that his previous owner didn’t include him in their evacuation plans. However, the Humane Society is hopeful that Trooper will find the perfect forever home once he’s ready.

Since his rescue, Trooper has been adjusting to his new surroundings. He’s quite anxious and still stressed from his traumatic event, but he’s slowly warming up to the people around him. His foster family is learning more about his personality—he loves swimming, but may not be great with children. They’re dedicated to understanding him fully before deciding he’s ready for adoption.

Thank goodness for the compassion of the police officer who saved Trooper and the staff at the Humane Society, who are keeping him safe and sound as he prepares for his next adventure in life.
