Do Dogs Choose Snacks Or Toys
If your dog had to choose between a squeaky toy and a hot dog, which would win? According to researchers at the University of Florida, most pups would head straight for the snack.
In a recent study, dogs were presented with both their favorite treat and their favorite toy. Even when it took more effort to earn the food, most dogs still went for the edible reward. It wasnât even closeâcheese and hot dogs beat out tennis balls and plushies nearly every time.
That doesn't mean toys are useless in training. Dogs can still develop strong positive associations with play, especially if it starts early and the toy is used consistently as a reward.
But if youâre struggling to get your dogâs attention, their favorite food might be your secret weapon. After all, science says their stomach really might be the way to their heart.

National Take Your Dog to Work Day Is This Friday
National Take Your Dog to Work Day is coming up this Friday, June 20. If you're thinking about bringing your pup along, nowâs a good time to make sure theyâre actually office-ready.
Not all dogs are cut out for the workday hustleâespecially if theyâre still learning to settle down at home. If your dog assumes every outing means playtime, youâll want to start practicing ârelax and hang outâ mode in a calm corner before trying it next to a conference room.
Try short practice runs, like tethering them while you work in another room or visiting a quiet outdoor cafĂ©. The goal is to help your dog get used to ignoring distractions and staying calm when youâre not focused on them.
If you do bring them in, pack thoughtfully: leash, bed, snacks, chews, and cleanup supplies. A tired, well-prepped pup is the best kind of coworker.

Is It Normal for Dogs to Destroy Toys?
You buy the cutest plushie in the store, only for your dog to destroy it in 10 minutes. But that raggedy ball from three years ago? Treasured like gold. What gives?
Turns out, itâs not personal. Many dogs have natural instincts to shred, chew, and de-stuffâitâs part of their prey drive. Squeaky sounds, crinkly textures, or even the smell of a toy can make it more exciting to destroy. Others may be babied because they smell comforting or just donât trigger those instincts.
Some dogs develop attachments to specific toys, often carrying them around or sleeping with them. It might be the toyâs texture, or maybe it reminds them of you.
As long as your dog isnât swallowing pieces, a little destruction is totally normal. Just keep an eye out and toss any damaged toys before they become a hazard.
