True or False?

The Boston Terrier is known as “The American Gentleman.”

(scroll to the bottom to find the answer!)

These American Dog Breeds Go Way Back

Not all dogs trace their roots to ancient Europe or far-off lands. Some proudly bark, “Made in the USA.” From the swamps of South Carolina to George Washington’s backyard, American-born breeds have a rich and surprising history.

Take the American foxhound—our founding father himself helped develop this gentle breed by crossing English and French hounds. Or the Boykin spaniel, South Carolina’s state dog, who can trace its entire lineage back to a single stray pup found in the early 1900s. Some, like the rat terrier, started as hardworking farmhands before becoming full-time couch companions.

And then there's the American hairless terrier, the country’s only native hairless breed. Feisty, playful, and low-shedding, they’re as practical as they are adorable.

From the massive Alaskan malamute to the tuxedo-clad Boston terrier, these breeds show the diversity of American dogs. Whether you’re into hiking, hunting, or just hanging out, there's a homegrown pup to match your lifestyle.

The Benefits of Choosing American-Made Products for Your Pet

If you’ve ever flipped over a dog toy to check where it was made, you’re not alone. More pet owners are choosing U.S.-made products—and not just out of patriotism. When it comes to safety, quality, and transparency, “Made in the USA” often means more peace of mind.

American manufacturers are required to follow stricter safety regulations, which is especially important for things like treats, chews, and food. In 2007, thousands of pets were affected by contaminated imports, prompting many owners to stick with homegrown options. And when it comes to toys, U.S.-based companies are more likely to avoid materials with harmful chemicals like BPA or lead.

It’s not just about safety, either. Buying American-made supports local businesses and jobs, many of which are small, family-run operations with high standards and big hearts.

Yes, you may spend a little more, but you’re getting products that are often better made, built to last, and made with your pup’s well-being in mind.

A Boston Terrier Finally Gets Her Day

After years in a puppy mill, Maple the Boston Terrier finally got to celebrate her first real birthday—and she made the most of it. Her new family threw her a party full of love, treats, and tail wags. It was the first time she got to be a dog, not a number in a breeding operation.

Maple was rescued on the Fourth of July in 2024. She came from a rough background—attacked by another dog, injured, and used for breeding. But when her new family saw her, they instantly knew she belonged. Their Frenchton, Walter, needed a buddy, and Maple was the perfect match.

Now, she and Walter are best friends. She naps in the sun, plays with toys, and celebrates life in full.

Her story is a reminder of why adoption matters and why ethical breeding is so important. Every rescued pup deserves a second chance—and maybe even a birthday hat.
