True or False?

Dogs think snowmen are real people.

Does Winter Weather Dry Out Your Dog’s Skin?

Winter’s chilly weather isn’t just hard on us. It can also take a toll on our dogs' skin. The cold outdoor air, combined with dry indoor heating, strips away natural oils from their fur and skin, leading to dryness, flakiness, and irritation. Sensitive breeds and short-coated dogs are particularly vulnerable to these winter skin issues.

Common signs of dry skin in dogs include increased scratching, flaky patches, redness, and dry fur. If you notice these symptoms, it’s important to adjust your dog’s care routine. First, minimize baths and opt for moisturizing shampoos designed for dogs. Avoid human shampoos that can upset their skin’s pH balance. Regular brushing helps distribute natural oils, keeping skin hydrated.

Paws can suffer, too, with exposure to salt, snow, and icy ground. Protect your dog’s paws by using balms, rinsing them after walks, and considering booties to shield them from harsh elements.

Don’t forget that a balanced diet rich in omega fatty acids can support skin health. If the dryness persists, consult your vet to ensure your pup gets the right treatment and nutrition.

Winter’s tough on skin, but with a few adjustments, you can help your dog stay comfortable all season.

If Your Dog Licks Their Paws, Stop Feeding Them This

Hollywood actor and leading pet advocate Rob Lowe recently went on camera to reveal 3 "forbidden" foods he feeds his 6 rescue dogs.

These are foods most owners think could harm their dogs—but they might actually help your pup live healthier, move more easily, and feel years younger.

The first food on Rob’s list is something you’ve probably been told is "unhealthy" for dogs—but it’s the ONLY thing his pickiest eater will touch when she’s sick and refusing everything else.

The second food hides in your grocery store’s freezer aisle and is one of Rob’s favorite "low-budget hacks" for dogs’ joints, skin, and digestion.

The third food is so controversial that most people would lose their minds if you suggested it… but top veterinarians now say it might be one of the most beneficial things you can add to your dog’s bowl.

Dog-Proofing Your Christmas Tree

The holidays are here, and while it’s the most wonderful time of the year, it can also be the most challenging with pets around your Christmas tree. Wagging dog tails can quickly turn your beautiful tree into a disaster zone. But don’t worry. There are simple steps you can take to protect both your tree and your pets.

Start by hanging ornaments higher on your tree, out of reach from playful paws. Create a barrier around your tree using a baby gate or large wrapped boxes to block pets from getting too close.

You can also try making your tree smell unpleasant to them. Citrus scents like lemon or orange are natural deterrents. And avoid food-based decor like popcorn garlands, which are too tempting for curious noses.

If all else fails, stabilize your tree with a heavy base and secure ornaments with twist ties. With a little effort, you can enjoy the holiday cheer without too much dog-induced chaos.
