Holiday travel hits differently when a pet is in the mix. According to a new nationwide survey, more than half of pet parents plan to bring their dogs or cats along for holiday trips this year. Most are sticking to road travel, with 51% choosing the car over the stress of flying. And some states are practically rolling out the red carpet for four-legged passengers: in Wisconsin, a whopping 92% of pet parents plan to travel with their animals!

Traveling with a pet does come with extra costs. Americans plan to spend about $242 on average, but many say it’s worth every penny to have their furry sidekick along for the ride.
