Can TV Be Comforting for Anxious Dogs?
Some dogs come alive the second the TV turns on: tail up, ears perked, fully invested in whateverās happening on screen. Others barely give it a glance but seem comforted by the background sound. Either way, thereās a growing body of experience among trainers and veterinarians suggesting that TV can help some dogs feel less anxious, especially when home alone.
Whatās calming isnāt usually the picture, but the steady, familiar sounds. Soft talking, background music, and predictable noise can help drown out triggers like traffic, neighbors, or sudden silence. For dogs with separation anxiety, this can make the house feel a little less empty and the transition a bit smoother. Shows with nature scenes, animals, or slow movement can be especially soothing for pups who actually watch the screen.
Of course, itās not a magic fix. TV works best as one part of a calming routine. Think enrichment toys, a safe cozy spot, gentle exercise, and predictable structure. But if your dog seems to relax more with the TV on, thatās perfectly valid. For some pups, a little background company is all it takes to feel like the world makes sense again.

Dog of the Day, Coal
This is Coal, a 5-year-old long-haired Chihuahua with a heart as big as his ears. Equal parts snuggle bug and adventurer, he's happiest either curled up on the couch or sniffing his way through the backyard.
Coalās favorite pastime? Exploring the world with his little sister by his side. Whether itās a quiet nap or an adventure, heās all in, as long as thereās love (and maybe a treat) at the end.

Pet Parentsā Plans for Holiday Travel
Holiday travel hits differently when a pet is in the mix. According to a new nationwide survey, more than half of pet parents plan to bring their dogs or cats along for holiday trips this year. Most are sticking to road travel, with 51% choosing the car over the stress of flying. And some states are practically rolling out the red carpet for four-legged passengers: in Wisconsin, a whopping 92% of pet parents plan to travel with their animals!
Traveling with a pet does come with extra costs. Americans plan to spend about $242 on average, but many say itās worth every penny to have their furry sidekick along for the ride.
And while pet parents do think about things like anxiety, safe places to stay, and keeping their dogs comfortable around new people, those worries come from a place of wanting the holidays to feel complete.
Whether your dog jumps in the backseat for the adventure or relaxes at home with a sitter, our pets shape our holiday plans in the best possible way, reminding us who we love and what makes the season feel like home.
